Sure, email is a very powerful digital marketing tool, especially when you take into account the fact that for each dollar spent on email marketing, the average return is around $42.
But email marketing isn't a magic wand, not by any means. You'll need the best strategies in your arsenal to actually make it work. What you also need is nothing else but the best email marketing software that fits your needs. The problem here is that there’s a large list of email marketing platforms out there, so it can be a bit hard to choose one, especially if you’re new to the wild world of email marketing. But no worries - that's why I'm here. I gotchu.
I'm here to introduce you to Klaviyo - the email marketing software that you're looking for, even if you didn’t know it yet.
What is Klaviyo? How effective is it for e-commerce? How much does Klaviyo cost? Great questions.
Keep calm and read this in-depth Klaviyo review to find out if it's a perfect fit for your business.

What is Klaviyo?
Klaviyo is an email marketing service as well as one of the top email marketing apps you can find, and to be honest, it has quuuuuite a reputation for expediting the email flow process. Though it started out as a tool specifically designed for e-commerce stores, they’ve added new features like push notifications and SMS to the mix since then.
Yes, you heard right - you’ll be able to send personalized messages to your subscribers based on their interactions with your website. But what actually makes Klaviyo such a powerful tool is that it allows you to leverage your customer data in order to create custom-tailored messages that do...what? Directly convert to sales, that’s what.
While the majority of business owners use Klaviyo strictly for email, keep in mind that (as I previously mentioned), they offer SMS text messaging as well and, as I can tell, are slowly becoming an omnichannel digital marketing platform.
Though dollars might not make the world go around, they'll most definitely help you pick the right marketing software. Am I right? Always!
Chances are...you most definitely already know how much money you want to spend on that new software.
The first thing you're gonna love is the free pricing tier that Klaviyo offers.
What? Oh yes, this plan covers you for up to 250 contracts and 500 emails. Anyway, you will have to commit to double opt-in for all of your subscribers, and a friendly reminder - you're gonna get their logo sprayed at the bottom of your content. Whether you like it or not, it's free, so I'm afraid you can't complain. This may not be a deal-breaker for you in case you're just starting out with your small e-commerce business.
On the other hand, some growing enterprises and big-name corporations probably (definitely) don't want Klaviyo branding to eat their credibility away.
Sooo, what happens if you jump up to say…like...1000 contacts?
Unlimited email send share is a plus, sure, and it's always nice to have the peace of mind of chat support (even though they only work EST hours, M-F). If you decide to play around a bit with the contact slider, you're gonna find out that the pricing plan can go aaaall the way up to $1,700 per month (yowzers), for 146,000 contacts. After that, you're gonna need a personalized quote.
Essentially, with each tier, you'll get the same basic features, including one-click integrations, automated emails, email templates, and reporting. The only things that change with price are:
- Number of contacts you have
- Number of emails you can send
- The amount of support you receive
Those higher-tier accounts will get their own account manager. Cool, right?Clearly, this isn't the cheapest tool out there, but at least its pricing is pretty straightforward.
Those prices got your head in a spin?
No worries, let's put money to one side for now and pay attention to its features instead, shall we?
I must say that Klaviyo takes email segmentation suuuuper seriously. How seriously?
Well, as soon as you sign up, you're going to be offered with a range of possible lists that you can build out by utilizing imported contacts from your email list - you will be able to segment your emails by transactional or behavioral data, taking information from not just Shopify but also many other CRMs. Additionally, you will be able to segment based on events such as when your customer makes his first purchase.
Heeeck, you can even get super in-depth.
I'm talking about the segments that you can explicitly create for people who looked at sunglasses six times in the previous seven days on your store, or people named Anthony who bought pants last Thursday. Their integration with Facebook audience targeting allows you to get veeery deep into your customization options too. You see?
If you wanna figure out which customers are (probably) going to become your VIP customers, you can set up Klaviyo's "data science" tools.
Okay, so now that you've got your prospects sorted out, it's time to jump right into automation.
After all, that's what you're looking for here today - something that will help you manage your marketing, right? Right!
Klaviyo offers probably one of the most advanced automation strategies you'll ever see. Now, this is where things get cool. Buckle up, because this ride’s about to get wild (in a good way).
Say you've got no experience at all, but you want to build automated workflows. You're not sure how to create a welcome series email, cart abandonment one, or maybe a post-purchase follow-up strategy? Don't worry, "Browse Ideas" button will take you to a list of pre-built templates that you can use.
What I would also love to mention is that Klaviyo integrates with your existing email data from tools such as Shopify, so that you can build your strategy based on what you already know about your customers.
Kaviyo's data-analytics solution provides real-time data that trigger automation based on the specific route that every single customer takes after clicking on your email.
Conditional splits? Yup, this means that you can add multiple routes depending on whether someone goes back to your website, marks your email as spam, or buys a new product.
As your data is being collected from each email marketing campaign, you will be able to see how every single email in your series is performing.
They claim that it exposes and sync more data for automation than any other marketing platform out there. Believe it or not, keep in mind that you can also integrate Klaviyo with Shopify so that you can send much more personalized abandoned cart emails.
Klaviyo Reporting And Analytics
Okay, now you probably wonder how to determine which of your emails are having the most significant impact on your audience?
Wait...isn't that the only way to ensure that you're getting a good ROI?
Klaviyo makes it super easy for you to dive into the details of essential metrics such as bounces messages, clicked emails, and unsubscribe rates:
You'll also get a customizable analytics dashboard to keep track of what's going on. Depending on what you need, you'll have countless ways to build out your personal reporting layout.
Now that’s what I’m talking about!
You'll be able to actually see what your potential customers are doing in real-time.Because Klaviyo integrates so deeply with your e-commerce platform and other tools, you know which emails are driving purchases, when people are clicking, and which customers are the most valuable for your business.
That's all? Nope, you're also going to get a handy-dandy range of A/B testing options as well.
When you set up things such as unsubscribe rate or bounce rate, they'll appear under every flow, allowing you to see which emails are the most effective in real-time.
With those predictive analyses, you’ll be able to rack your potential customers to observe how many upcoming purchases you can expect, with them state-of-the-art CLV calculations.
Would you like to know who are your "best people"?
No problemo, Klaviyo will automate that by collecting information about everybody based on their engagement rates over the time period of your choosing. The software will check purchasing as well as click rates in order to determine which one of your followers will most likely be your biggest spender. You'll be able to organize your metrics to track who are your biggest buyers for some specific products.
As you can tell, there are sooo many options, which makes it (a bit) overwhelming, so If you're a beginner, you may find that this software gives you just way too much data. I mean, sure you can always remove some of the metrics you don't want to see– but it's much easier to get exhausted by the options, right…? Thankfully, Klaviyo’s UI takes all of this data and bundles it into a super easy to navigate interface, so you don’t need to start looking at data science degree programs just to figure out what’s what.
Klaviyo - usability, and UI
As I already said (a couple of times), Klaviyo integrates with your marketing tools and apps such as Shopify natively, which will reduce your time spent on clicking between software and tabs. If you’re one of those marketers who frequently spends time in multiple platforms, you’ll see this as a huge win.
Speaking about building emails with Klaviyo, I would like to mention that everything works on a drag-and-drop, intuitive email builder. It employs easy-to-use content blocks so that you can have complete control over your emails. We don’t really recommend using a templated approach unless you’re just starting out in the world of email marketing and need to get something out the door.
Moreover, if you're feeling extra low on inspiration one day(be honest, we all do sometimes), they will provide you with an extensive library of email templates you can use. Literally, all you have to do is pick a design that suits your purpose the best.
Did you know that Klaviyo can automatically integrate with your website, so it can pull your company logo and colors over into the email to give it that extra personal touch? Now that is cool.
These days, we rely on those digital tools waaaay more than we used to.Dunno about you, but I use around 5-10 different types of software every day, from collaboration apps to analytics tools. You have to agree that life would be a lot easier if those tools can work seamlessly together.
Klaviyo is great at pulling in data from your favorite marketing tools and CRM. When you click on the "Integrations" page, you'll see a range of options.
What's even more, this tool specializes in a few in-depth integrations as well. For example, it has seamless collaborations with Shopify, Shopify Plus, Magneto, and BigCommerce.
Let’s be honest; we all need a little help sometimes!
Klaviyo's help center is state-of-the-art. I'm serious. We're talking about step-by-step instructions, guides, videos, webinars, training sessions, and probably everything you can think of.
Seriously, their help center is packed full of advice, from email deliverability to metrics and reporting. Keep in mind that if you want to contact them, you're gonna need a paid account to try out their chat-support.
Alternatively, you can contact their team via email. Trust me, they’re super responsive, and it's easy to find the Live Chat if you're in a hurry or tailspin too.
Wait, wait, wait. Let me ask you a few questions before you leave:
- Do you want state-of-the-art segmentation?
- Do you like things such as predictive analysis and advanced reporting?
- Would you want an immersive range of digital marketing tools?
- Do you love the state-of-the-art integrations?
- Would you mind taking the time to learn?
- Sorry, but I also need to ask this one - You've got a hell of a lot of money, right?
If your answer to all these questions is yes, then you would most definitely want to give Klaviyo a go! Klaviyo is here to stay, and with this software, you can turn your dream of taking your business to newer heights to reality.
